12:00 28th July 2010
More than two-thirds (68 per cent) of e-commerce firms are unsure as to whether they use data collected from their websites effectively.
The e-commerce companies are uncertain as to whether they manage to maintain loyalty and successfully recruit new customers, according to research from SLI Systems.
Not all e-commerce firms manage to integrate all the successful tools and tactics to improve their users' experience.
Almost half (45 per cent) are missing the chance to advance user experience, even though 87 per cent use web analytics, 88 per cent use on-site search and 81 per cent use email marketing.
Shaun Ryan, chief executive officer at SLI Systems, said: "In today's highly competitive selling environment, online retailers can capture more sales and conversions - and have more meaningful engagements with customers - when they make the most of their site search through better 'searchandising' and other techniques, and by using site search data in SEO [search engine optimisation], paid search, and other marketing initiatives."
Recently, data released by WebVisible revealed that e-commerce companies spent significantly more on their online marketing in the second quarter of 2010 compared to in Q1.
