SMEs 'increased online marketing spend'

12:03 27th July 2010

Over the past year, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have increased their spending on search online marketing, a new report has revealed.

Companies, including some e-commerce firms, selling jewellery, loans, mortgages and job recruitment services spent significantly more in Q2 than Q1 of the year, according to the WebVisible Report: State of Small Business Online Advertising Q2 2010.

On average, SMEs spend $2,231 (£1,460) on search online marketing, which was up 1.4 per cent compared to the first quarter of the year, and a 159 per cent increase over Q2 last year.

WebVisible chief executive officer Kirsten Mangers said: "Over the past year, conversion activity increased on almost all website actions... For advertisers this is great news. The more options a company provides, the more actions a website visitor will take - giving advertisers multiple opportunities to establish a connection with each potential buyer."

In the UK, Yahoo performed strongest for online marketers in the second quarter, with the share of online marketing spend increasing by 8.1 per cent compared with Q1.

Bing and Google lost some of the UK's online marketing spend on search, with Bing's share dropping 15.1 per cent and Google's decreasing by 6.9 per cent, according to WebVisible.

Recently, Karin von Abrams, senior analyst at eMarketer, said online marketing would continue to perform this year.ADNFCR-2032-ID-800006112-ADNFCR
