Use 'free SEO' to promote e-commerce business

16:05 28th June 2010

North West e-commerce firms should be looking to online marketing to boost traffic to their websites.

According to search engine optimisation (SEO) expert Peter Boyd, who was interviewed by the Miami Herald, businesses will not grow unless customers can find them online.

Small businesses wanting to rank highly in customer search engine results can look to a number of free ways to increase their online marketing power.

One way to do this is to use Google's free keyword search tool - this provides real-time data on what keywords and phrases people are searching for, making it easier to tailor firms'online marketing.

Content of the website is key to ranking well and having good SEO, according to Mr Boyd.

"With the content you write for your website, make sure you use one keyword per sentence.

"Any more than that and you probably ending up ranking lower because Google and other search engines penalise for having too many keywords on a web page."

He said, after optimising results, it is important to ensure keywords appear in prominent places on the website in order to boost traffic.

Last week, research from eMarketer showed that the internet's share of total spending on media ads is expected to rise from just over 15 per cent in 2010 to more than 20 per cent in 2014, showing the importance of online marketing for firms.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19860582-ADNFCR
