Importance of online marketing through Twitter revealed

A new study has revealed that Britons would rather tweet on social networking site Twitter than eat, showing the importance of using social networks for online marketing.

Instead of taking a break from the internet, people using websites such as Twitter and Facebook will skip meals, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by Belvita breakfast biscuits.

Some 36 per cent said they spent less time eating than ten or 20 years ago, showing how North West e-commerce firms could take advantage of the social networking trend by employing specific online marketing campaigns for them.

Nicola Wilkinson, marketing manager for Belvita, said: "Tweeting and social networking are being put ahead of getting a good start to the day."

Recently, it was suggested that using social media websites for online marketing could help with link building and boosting web presence.

Jake Hird, senior research analyst at Econsultancy said: "If you have a social media presence you're more likely to be visible in a search result because of the authority of the site."

He advised that blogging could also help the "natural search visibility" of websites, leading to increased traffic for North West e-commerce firms.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19858088-ADNFCR
