Five tips for e-commerce companies

12:13 17th June 2010

North West e-commerce firms looking to future-proof their pages should make the most of five top tips from Econsultancy.

Writing for the website, Kelvin Newman has suggested that e-commerce merchants might want to introduce user-generated reviews.

This will add variety, depth and honesty to the product pages on an e-commerce website and makes it difficult for competitors to duplicate, thus increasing traffic.

Good product images are important for e-commerce firms as they increase customer confidence and attract links too, boosting the online marketing of the company.

Make sure each page has character, Mr Newman advises. To ensure people are interested in the e-commerce products on offer, firms should use interesting descriptions.

North West e-commerce firms should try to make it simple for people to link to product pages on their website, as people may want to share the products with their acquaintances, which will boost sales.

Last, but not least, Mr Newman recommends firms stay one step ahead of the search engine Google.

E-commerce pages that are thin on content are less likely to rank highly, so firms should try to be in front of Google when it makes changes to its algorithm.

Mr Newman advises e-commerce firms to look at hProduct microformat for help on how to do this.

Recent figures by Econsultancy and Guava have shown that firms are using social media channels for their online marketing.

Around 81 per cent of businesses are using Twitter to market themselves, while 78 per cent use Facebook to boost their online marketing.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19843247-ADNFCR
