North-west e-commerce firms can make their sites more appealing to customers by adding more content, it has been claimed.
Speaking at the Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition in Chicago, US this week, industry expert Ken Burke said that using content in the correct manner can boost firms' search engine rankings, build customer trust and attract new consumers.
He suggested that businesses should ensure that 80 per cent of their site is commerce focussed with the other 20 per cent being dedicated to content, reports Internet Retailer.
Mr Burke added that sites should go beyond simple product descriptions and incorporate buyers' guides, reports on industry trends and even videos onto their site.
He continued to say that sharing content can also help retailers as it builds up links back to their site and spreads the word to other consumers.
Writing for eConsultancy earlier this month, search engine optimisation expert James Gurd advised e-commerce firms to create a logical structure for their web pages that ensures all articles and guides on products are included.
