Growing SMEs should 'use online marketing'

11:59 4th June 2010

Growing North West e-commerce businesses should use online marketing to compete with larger firms, it has been suggested.

Writing for btobonline.com, Pamela Springer, the chief executive officer of Manta, said that online marketing and distribution have challenged "traditional cost structures and business models", as well as removed geographical barriers.

However, most small business owners fail to keep up with the "evolving world" of social media and online marketing, not realising the benefits or impact they could have upon their e-commerce business, she said.

North West small businesses may want to consider increasing their visibility by creating a company profile on the internet, which can increase knowledge of the website and acts as a simple online marketing tool.

They may also want to consider using social networks for their online marketing, such as Facebook and Twitter, as they help businesses connect with their customers.

When getting started, North West small businesses should first observe their competitors, customers and industry peers in order to find the best online marketing techniques to employ, Ms Springer advised.

Recently, search engine optimisation (SEO) expert James Gurd, writing for eConsultancy, advised e-commerce companies to create a logical structure for their website to improve their organic SEO.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19818420-ADNFCR
