11:39 8th February 2010
Companies in Lancashire are set to increase the amount they spend on online marketing this year, according to new research.
The study by Econsultancy and ExactTarget found that firms will increase their digital budgets by an average of 17 per cent in 2010, with web-based platforms expected to account for 24 per cent of their overall marketing spend.
It was also revealed that 28 per cent of firms are shifting at least a proportion of their overall marketing budgets from traditional to digital promotions.
Linus Gregoriadis, research director of Econsultancy, said: "Companies are increasing their budgets for most digital channels.
"Social media marketing is the area where companies are most likely to be spending more money in 2010, but areas such as search engine marketing and email will remain buoyant."
Earlier this year, research by the Internet Advertising Bureau found that 88 per cent of UK brands rate social media as important to their business.
It also revealed that a third of advertisers plan to allocate between six and 20 per cent of their digital marketing budgets to social media platforms during 2010, while only seven per cent of businesses are believed to have not embraced the mediums in any way.
