Recommendation systems 'can boost online sales'

09:54 5th February 2010

The world of online retail could change dramatically as more and more firms incorporate personalisation into their website design, it has been claimed.

According to inc.com, personalisation of a website is one of the most important ways to help consumers discover products when they are shopping online and a key aspect of this is recommendation engines.

Writing for the website, Vijay Chittoor said: "Personalisation and recommendation engines have been around for a while and have been a strong driver of sales.

"For example, Amazon's recommendation system was said to account for up to 35 percent of sales in 2006."

A number of UK retailers have already begun adopting the practice of personalisation, with Urban Outfitters announcing a "triple digit percentage increase in sales" after implementing such a system – news which may be of interest to retailers in Lancashire and the North West interested in boosting their online sales.

Recently, David Smith, director of operations at IMRG, said that there were a whole host of factors driving the growth in online retail.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19599218-ADNFCR
