Companies in Lancashire could enjoy a major sales boost by embracing online retail facilities this year, new research has suggested.
The latest figures published by IMRG and Capgemini revealed that online retail sales rose by 17 per cent year-on-year during December to reach £5.46 billion.
According to Reuters, the research highlighted that the monthly increase was above the 2009 average growth rate of 14 per cent.
However, the sector is also set to enjoy a strong 2010, according to the research, as an average growth rate of 13 per cent is expected to be seen over the next 12 months.
James Roper, the chief executive officer of IMRG, told the news provider: "2010 looks set to produce another year of strong results for e-retail, with demand expected to remain high as consumers habitually look online for best buys."
He added that improvements will also boost the sector, including the availability of a wide product range and improved websites.
Recent figures from the British Retail Consortium suggested that online retail sales in the UK were up 26.5 per cent year-on-year during December.
According to the its research revealed people are increasingly confident about leaving their online Christmas shopping until the month.
