More people 'to use online retail'

11:09 30th December 2009

The number of people heading online to pick up bargains could grow over the next couple of weeks, an expert has claimed.

According to Aaron McLean, general manager for PayPal Merchant Services in the UK, many top retailers are expected to start their online sales early this year.

He added that the low temperatures also mean people are unlikely to want to venture out, so companies in Lancashire could get a major boost by ensuring their online services are up and running.

"Three quarters of internet users prefer shopping online as they say it's more convenient, saving them time and money," he explained.

"Shoppers who head online before the end of 2009 will also make the most of the final days of lower reduced VAT."

Mr McLean also warned that people should make sure they know when sales are starting online, as a failure to make note of this could lead them to miss out on bargains.

Recent figures published by Verdict have predicted that the amount of money spent online in the UK will reach over £60 billion in a decade.

The study was carried out in conjunction with online auction site eBay.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19533394-ADNFCR
