11:02 17th December 2009
Companies in Lancashire could significantly boost their sales by using online retail services over the coming months, new figures have suggested.
The study by optimisation solutions provider Coremetrics has revealed that the value of the average order placed online in the UK is now 94 per cent higher than it was in the same period last year.
According to the research, the figure is a major rise from the 20 per cent fall in order value seen between 2007 and 2008.
In addition, the number of goods being ordered per transaction has risen from 2.7 items in 2007 to 3.7 this year.
Richard Shepard, vice-president of Europe, Middle East and Africa at Coremetrics, said UK consumers are "clearly feeling much more optimistic" about the economy.
"The recession has had a huge impact on online sales, but the benchmark figures demonstrate that more shoppers than ever are going online in search of great deal," he added.
Recent figures published by IMRG claimed that December 7th would be the busiest online shopping day this year.
It suggested that an estimated £350 million would be spent via the internet during the day, as Brits prepare for the busy festive period by purchasing presents online.
