Small businesses 'embracing online marketing strategies'

11:23 14th December 2009

New research has suggested that a number of companies are now using online marketing to reach consumers.

The study by Vistaprint found that businesses are looking to push forward with their use of platforms including email and social media, as well as maintain their websites, over the coming 12 months.

While the study was carried out in the US, it is likely to reflect trends on this side of the Atlantic.

Email marketing was cited by a large majority of firms as a channel they have used already or are planning to move forward with over the coming year, although businesses are also keen on looking into promotions involving Facebook and Twitter.

However, it was also revealed that a number of firms are failing to take advantage of website development as a promotional tool, as just 38 per cent of companies have such a presence.

Trynka Shineman, chief marketing officer for Vistaprint, said: "This survey has confirmed that small businesses will start to try and incorporate online options as part of their overall marketing plan."

Jason Falls, a consultant and blogger on socialmediaexplorer.com, recently urged firms to be patient when using social platforms like Twitter to reach consumers.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19510304-ADNFCR
