Video 'becoming key part of website design'

11:38 19th November 2009

Companies in Lancashire that are looking to boost their online presence should add video to their websites, an expert has suggested.

Rachel Hawkes, account director of media consultancy firm Elemental, has claimed that video can be a key way for firms to drive traffic to their websites via search engine optimisation.

She called on businesses to ensure that videos are featured on all relevant pages of their sites, but added that they should stem from a single centralised location so they can be viewed easily.

Keywords and descriptions must also be used next to the content, as this is "standard practice".

She explained that such a move allows "the audience to get an idea of what they are going to watch before they hit play".

"Text and video will seed well into search engines, providing businesses with effective content to help drive search engine optimisation," she added.

Research published by the European Interactive Advertising Association found that 33 per cent of all marketers are increasing their use of online video promotions, with 20 per cent stating that the growth in spend is coming from other budgets.

Over 80 per cent of respondents also claimed they have increased their online advertising spend this year.ADNFCR-2032-ID-19468139-ADNFCR
