Website designers and developers are sure to be interested in the latest development in the UK's broadband debate.
According to broadband.co.uk, the government needs to invest more money into expanding the high-speed internet system across the UK.
Edd Dawson, managing director of the independent broadband advice website, said customers should not be charged for the upgrade.
He criticised the government's proposed 50p levy on fixed phone lines as he commented that it would not raise enough revenue to make a difference.
"The government definitely needs to be involved in superfast broadband to more remote areas of the country," he added.
Businesses who are using the internet to attract customers will be happy to hear Mr Dawson's comments as they propose a radical re-haul of the current system.
The government had suggested placing the levy on all fixed copper-lines which are used for telephone access in the UK.
According to the Digital Britain Report consumers in the UK enjoy the lowest telecommunications prices in Europe.
The Office for National Statistics stated that in 2008, 65 per cent of all households in Britain had access to the internet and 56 per cent were using broadband - an increase of five per cent from 2007.
