10:59 17th June 2009
Online video is the technology that is most likely to "revolutionise" e-retailing over the next five years, according to the results of a survey by Practical eCommerce.
Website designers should pay close attention to the research as it suggests how new technologies would transform E-Commerce.
Video soared ahead of other technologies with 34 per cent of those questioned stating that it had the potential to transform E-Commerce.
One respondent reportedly said that eBay would have video demonstrations in the future.
AJAX was next on the list with almost a quarter choosing it over Flex and Automated chat which received eight per cent of the votes each.
Other technologies that got mentioned included live chat products, Adobe Flash and XML.
This comes as a report from Nielsen showed that in the US, the time spent viewing video content online had almost doubled in the last year.
The online and mobile solutions company said there had been a 49 per cent year-on-year increase per viewer.
YouTube was the most popular video viewing portal with 5.5 million streams more than its closest rival Hulu.
The top ten video outlets included news channels such as ABC.com and Fox Interactive Media, the MTV Networks Music site, the search engine Yahoo! and Nikelodeon Kids and Family Network.
