11:28 11th June 2009
Web 2.0 has become the millionth word in the English language - increasing the importance of internet management and E-Commerce in the business sector.
The word, which describes the next generation of internet services, beat Slumdog and Jai Ho! - which were among the 15 finalists - to become the official millionth word by US-based Global Language Monitor.
Earlier in the year the .Net Web Content Management System and the software provider Sitecore identified Web 2.0, portal and public website integration, and E-Commerce as key web content management trends in 2009.
Sitecore also noted a 100 per cent growth rate in the integration of Microsoft's SharePoint.
A spokesperson for SharePoint commented that it was the "fastest growing server business in Microsoft history".
She added that the product could help businesses to overcome the recession by bringing value to their organisation.
The success of the product - which helps companies integrate search and content management and collaboration with business intelligence and portals - proves the importance of technology and the ability to be web savvy at work.
According to a report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, despite a falling number of jobs in the IT industry - which is in-line with other professions, recruitment in the IT and computing industry is "holding up better than most".
